Aaron and I decided to take the pacifier away from Reed. He has only been using it to sleep for a while now, but I wanted to do it before Emma gets here. On Sunday afternoon before nap time we had Reed put all of his pacifiers in an envelope and we put them in the mailbox to mail to the Pacifier Fairy. We told him the Pacifier Fairy was going to take them to all the babies that need them. We told him when he woke up from his nap he would have a big present for giving his pacifiers to the babies.
It took him about 2 hours to fall asleep for his nap. He didn't cry much, just was talking and playing in his bed. We finally woke him up around 4:30 and gave him his big boy chair and new book shelf. He was disappointed that the presents weren't wrapped (he thinks all presents should be wrapped), but he soon got over it. He helped Aaron move the chair and book shelf into his room where we put all his books. He loves his new big boy chair and didn't seem to care that he had to give up the glider to his baby sister.
That evening when it was time to go to bed he asked about the pacifiers again, so we had to show him that they were no longer in the mailbox and remind him that he was a big boy now and didn't need them. He fell asleep with no crying and has only mentioned it one time since. It went so much smoother than I thought and I am very proud of him.
Now if we could just get potty trained!!!
